Obituary of Edwin N. Oftedahl

Oftedahl, Ph.D; Edwin Nicholai Irondequoit: Saturday, June 28, 2014. Son of Edwin N. Oftedahl, Sr. & Wanda Hill Oftedahl of Chicago, Ill; husband of Geraldine (Ptacek) Oftedahl; father of Regina(Oftedahl)(Reginald) Sutfin and Christina (Oftedahl)(Brent) Warden; son-in-law of Margaret Minarovics Ptacek & Henry John Ptacek; brother-in-law of John (Beth) Ptacek; Robert – deceased – (Jeanne) Ptacek; William (Margaret) Ptacek; Thomas ( Helen) Ptacek; Mary – (Michael) Gunderson. Mr. Oftedahl graduated from DePaul University where he earned B.S. and M.S. in Organic Chemistry. He then obtained a Ph.D. at Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill. Following completion of his degree, he accepted a position in research at Eastman Kodak Co. from which he retired in 1991. He was responsible for the discovery of the motion picture "taking" film which received both Oscar and Emmy Awards and remains in use today. He was also a long term fan of gardening and participating in the stock markets. His family will receive friends FRIDAY, July 11,2014 from 4-7 pm at the funeral home (570 Kings Hwy South). Friends are invited to meet the family SATURDAY 11:00 AM at HOLY CROSS CHURCH (4492 Lake Ave.) for his memorial Mass of the Resurrection. Inurnment Irondequoit Cemetery. Please Send No Flowers.
